8 April 2011

Large amounts of unlicensed medications have actually been seized by Department of Health officials during a search of a home in Glengormley.

A man was interviewed by department officers about and subsequently supplying unlicensed impotence medicines through the web.

The 47-year-old was also questioned about other medicine offenses.

He will now be the topic of a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

The search was carried out by the department's Medicines Regulatory Group.

Its senior enforcement office, Peter Moore, said: "It is crucial that we get the message across that unlicensed medicines can be dangerous.

"These kinds of items being offered, usually online, have undergone no quality assurance and there can be no warranty about their security.

"You just do not understand what you are taking or the conditions these products were made in. More importantly, you do not understand the impact drugs like this may have on your health."
